We are excited to include Darren White on our Coastal Trail. These works must be seen in person as the layers of paint really bring them to life. It is also wonderful to listen to Darren speak about his work, a true talent! ........... Born and raised in a small coastal town in New Zealand, Darren White has a very strong connection to the sea and has found this connection remains strong around the globe. Moving to the Sunshine Coast to attend studies in Brisbane, the influence of architecture on the coastline has become a focal point within his work.
The works typically draw on memory of “Place” with the intention of capturing the feeling and nostalgia of a landscape in place of a detailed rendering. Throughout his practice Darren’s artworks always aim to lighten the mood or space for the observer, where there is no place for a window, the right piece can bring light to the space in an alternative way.
Darren’s practice aims to remind us all to slow down and just remember—without photos and without technology—allowing our memories to be free to fill the scene, whether right or wrong, but nonetheless as we remember it.
Based in Peregian Beach, Darren has had successful solo shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Paris along with being a finalist in various national art prizes including the prestigious Paddington Art Prize, ‘Bait Fish, 2018’ was awarded Best Oil or Acrylic at the LALC Art Prize on the Sunshine Coast. @darrenwhiteart#noosaart#sea#coast#painting#noosa#peregianbeach
