Romanian Deadlifts

Targets: Glutes, Hamstrings, Traps, Forearms & Core
Equipment: Dumbbells
Difficulty: Medium-High
Rep Ranges: Responds best to low rep ranges as is predominant made up of fast twist muscle fibres types, but also responds well to medium range reps. Aim for either 3-5 reps or 6-12 reps.

Application: This is a great exercise for developing the posterior chain and for improving posture. It is also great for eccentrically loading the hamstrings.

Top Tip: Ensure that you engage the glutes before standing up from the lowest part of the movement as this will avoid loading through the lower back. Push the floor hard as you start to squeeze your glutes to get a stronger contraction.

This is a hip dominant movement so make sure that you hinge through your hips not your knees, keeping your back straight with your traps held back throughout.

Application: This is a compound lift that is great for developing strength and power in the posterior chain, along with improving posture.

Top Tip: Avoid loading through your lower back by stoping the pelvis from tilting at the beginning of the movement. Do this by leaning forward then pushing your hips straight back as if closing a door with your butt.

Try not to let your shoulders drop forward and round as this will stop your traps from doing their job and increase the chances of your lower back having to take over.

It was a pleasure to have father and son down yesterday to go over their squat and deadlift technique.⁣ ⁣ Both lifted PB’s from nothing more than simple coaching cues and tips that you can apply to your training straight away:⁣ ⁣ *Stable feet*⁣ Too many people forget that without a stable foot, you’re literally leaking the amount of force you can apply into the ground. More force applied = greater mass moved so remember you want to maintain the arch in your foot and keep equal pressure distributed under your big toe, little toe and heel. ⁣ ⁣ *Neutral hips*⁣ The squat should be initiated by breaking at the knee and hips simultaneously, not by shoving your ass back so much that you end up with a lordotic arched lower back and an excessively inclined torso. This will often cause the weight to be forward of your centre of balance meaning you have a harder job to stand back up! ⁣ ⁣ *Brace*⁣ Take a deep breath in so that your belly expands rather than raising your chest. From here, tense your abs as if you were going to get punched in the stomach. Descend into the squat maintaining this brace and drive aggressively out of the bottom, only breathing out slightly at the sticking point!⁣ ⁣ *Shoulders retracted*⁣ The act of pulling your shoulders back and squeezing them will give the bar a “shelf” to sit on top of your traps. GAMECHANGER?! Those are some pretty big boots to fill ..an whilst I could say I love this retinol or that acid, I started using those ingredients in my routine a good few years ago. Consistency with active ingredients will bring you results.... Today's #bestofbeautychallenge hosted by @zarrine_beautyjunkie, @raakhitanvimakeup, @thesestolenflowers and myself is the @mynuface! As some of you will already know I absolutely LOVE facial sculpting tools, I have been using my @nursejamiela uplift tool for about 3 years now and have seen consistent results on the contours of my face. The tourmaline stones help to stimulate the skin and offers lympathic drainage to reduxce puffiness in the face. Whilst I adore the uplift tool, I am getting older and saw the #nuface on offer around black Friday so picked it up to try. I wish I had got the trinity device now because I am obsessed with the nuface! You need to use a conductive gel as the nuface blasts micro currents into your skin. I use it for 5 minutes in the morning and 10 in the evening before my evening routine and whilst the uplift tool helps with drainage - the nuface for me tightens the muscles underneath the skin. I frown A LOT, an I have natural resting bitch face, when I use the nuface around my forehead and brow area it is physically lifted! It helps with my hooded eyes too! A few people have commented to me recently that 'I look well' or 'fresh' an I do credit some of that to the nuface. I have taken before an after pictures to share with you in a more dedicated review. I think it's an interesting step before or alongside botox or filler if you want it. The consistent use has improved.my jawline, contours and the fine lines and wrinkles around my eyes! OBSESSED! Honourable mentions go to the dyson hair dryer, simple human mirror and the dr dennis gross ferulic and retinol eye serum! I have posts on all of them on the grid!

So, how did I feel when changes were made to the original plan for 2020?⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Absolutely grateful for more *time* earned to work on given opportunities, for a while it worried me that I didn’t feel as disappointed as I should have felt but the truth is, my body was screaming for mercy (especially with the extreme flare ups I experience around my scapula), constantly run down, everything felt too rushed and somewhere along the line I had to back off and give myself a reality check, and so far I would be lying if I said my body is 100% recovered even though I’m beyond proud of what I have accomplished on my own, we knew we had to pause for a minute 😂⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m glad I took the right steps towards my physique goals this year, allowing me to work on a better overall package without rushing too much. Being hard on myself really taught me when’s the right time to be firm/hard and when to be flexible, I’m currently patiently working on recovering and doing what it’s best for my body. Feels great to put on some weight while still trying to look sharp😅⁣ #noexcuses ⁣ ⁣⁣ I just love what I do and truly am enjoying every part of the process, it’s much more fun to me than the end result. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Meanwhile I hope you guys are crushing your goals for this year and remember that your goals don’t need to be something “big”. Back Squats

Targets: Quadriceps, Glutes, Hamstrings & Core
Equipment: Barbell
Difficulty: High
Rep Ranges: Responds well to all rep ranges as recruits most of the major muscle groups, meaning it uses all types of muscle fibre.

Application: This one of the biggest compound lifts focused on the lower body, making it a great tool for developing strength, power and endurance.

Top Tip: When you get to the lowest point of your squat think about ‘pushing the floor’ to generate the force to stand back up, this will help generate force from the desired muscles.

The squat is a knee dominant movement so ensure that you are allowing the knees to bend fully by pushing them as far forward as possible with your heels still in contact with the floor, whilst simultaneously sitting your hips backwards.
