Arguably, for the first time in human history the spoken word is more powerful than the written word . . I am an avid #reader. I love #reading. #Books are one of the greatest treasures of #knowledge. And one of the best ways to provoke #thoughts . . One of the most effective sessions designed to drive you to max. 🔥 Billat's 30:30's 🔥 30 s hard running with 30 s of easy running. If you're on a treadmill but you can't switch down/up the speed (or don't want to) you can run the treadmill at the same speed and have 10 s rest, jump on for 10 s and rest another 10 s before the next interval. So that's 30 s - very hard 10 s complete rest 10 s - very hard 10 s complete rest Repeat . . . Today I have another video of one of our jumpers here at @athletesauthority, this time a high jumper. Jackson (@longlanky) has been coached by @seaton_strengthcoach over the past year, and the guy can certainly put some force into the ground.

The current trend in coaching is to keep on upping each other until exercises become so complex, with so many moving parts, that we as coaches can’t even demo the freaking things. Whilst progression and advancement is a big driving force in programming, and should be, when making your athletes stronger and more explosive, the basic positions will always be the answer.

As a coach, we need to set our athletes up to win, and getting them into positions that will allow them to put max force into the ground is one way we can do that. This Limited Range Squat sequenced with a 1 Leg Box Hop is a very effective way to load heavy in a bid to potentiate for a simple, but highly effective explosive output .…. and I know what you are thinking, nice to see a crisp looking box jump on social media isn’t it 😝

Society is filled with people suffering silently. Often it's not a bad suffering. They have a comfortable life, but there is an underlying pain which holds them back.⠀

This pain is necessary. This pain is a message to change your life.⠀

And this is why I believe so fully in how I guide and coach clients. ⠀

Yes, looking good helps you feel better, but it doesn't take away the pain.⠀
⠀
What helps is feeling like you're in control, proving to yourself you can overcome challenges, not quitting, connecting to others also looking to make a change, and for a while, each day at least, connecting with yourself on a physical and primal level. ⠀

I won't go as far as to say "it worked for me, so it can work for you", but the reason I don't feel the pain is because I listened and made a change.⠀

And it started with getting into the gym and taking control, proving to myself I can overcome challenges, not quitting, connecting to others and connecting to myself on a physical and primal level.⠀

It might just be training to others, but to me, this is listening to your pain and changing your life.

“EMP’s Ash began coming down to the DC each week and despite usually disliking exercising in front of an audience, we began with stretching and then Ash made a weight training program for me.  I mentioned one day I liked boxing and Ash offered to undertake boxing sessions with me weekly.”

How do you feel it has helped you in your daily life?
“I have gone from doing virtually no exercise to the abovementioned exercise program and I joined a gym something I thought I would never do. The gym has given me a new lease on lift and I go 5-6 times per week. The wealth of information and instruction that Ash and Darren have given me has made my job safer and I am becoming fitter and (Woo-Hoo!) losing weight! 😊 “

LETS TALK WARMING UP - ⏬🔥 I feel like people focus on their warm up too much & don’t actually put the work in for the bulk of their sessions. Your warm up shouldn’t take 30 minutes if you’re only spending 12 minutes on the bar. I prefer my clients to spend more time warming up the actual movement (say 3 sets of the bar for Hang Power Snatches), rather than spend 20 minutes foam rolling, 10 minutes stretching etc. I prefer a short warm up (no longer than 15 minutes), which primes & activates the main muscle groups utilised in the workout. Here are a few of my favourite warm up exercises & why I prescribe them —> - Bear Crawl Iso Hold - a great way to prime the core (which you need to be switched on for heavy lifting), also strengthens the wrists & shoulders. - Bird Dog - one of McGills 3 exercises to warm up. Promotes core stability whilst there is movement with the arms & legs (hm hmm similar to the bottom of a squat) - Straight Arm Side Plank —> recruits the obliques/transverse abdominals which is important for stability. You’ll often find that one side of the body is stronger than the other so it is important to train/activate with unilateral exercises - Squat & Press —> Another great way to activate the core for lifting heavy weights whilst warming up the legs. A banded paloff press to squat is another one of my favourites. I typically go a 3 x 12 rep range & as I’ve said this shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes.
